#74 Went to the temple

Hey everyone
Hey everyone
Well it has been quite
a week. A couple of things happened that were really cool. First on
Tuesday I got to escort Jilbert Sagrado to the temple. It was really
cool. He had a ton of questions and it was so nice to go back to the
temple. The last time I went was in February. It was so
refreshing. I have noticed that my thoughts have been so much
clearer. I hope that every one can go to the temple and feel this.
On Wednesday we had some good visits. We found out that our investigator,
Jelly, has been reading and studying trying to learn about the church. And yes
I am serious that her name is Jelly. There is a lot of names here in the
Philippines that I will make sure not to name my children. This last week
I also got spit on by a little kid. We were just walking away and he just
decided to be rude. He is a kid of a part member family. Seems like
we have a good relationship with them :) Another bad thing that happened this
week was that a turkey attacked me. It was okay though, didn't leave any
scars or anything. It was actually pretty funny. We were able to
use the He is the Gift video in some of our lessons. It was really cool
for the people that have TVs. We also got some good rain. We had an
investigator come to church. It is the mom of the family with three
kids. Her husband was sick so we will just have to get him next
week. They are progressing really well. We are just working with
them to make sure that they have a strong testimony. With the Christmas
season everyone has seemed a little nicer. I love the Christmas
spirit. We have seen so many amazing things. I hope we can all
remember the Savior for the whole year.

# 73 Getting ready for Christmas

Hello
everyone,
I hope everyone is
doing good and getting ready for Christmas. Everyone is probably running around
but I hope we can all remember the real meaning for Christmas. Our mission
president asked us to study the life of Jesus Christ and I have loved doing
that this last week. I have really focused on his birth and last week.
We also had a
wonderful Christmas conference. We had a small gift exchange and I got some
flip flops. I was glad because I needed some new ones. A dog took mine in my
last area.
We had a great lesson with an investigator of
ours. i actually met him in one of my previous areas and now he and his
wife have moved here and they are doing really good. They haven't come to
church yet but they are reading the book of mormon and doing really well.
We also have this awesome family that we taught that has three kids. They
said that they are willing to be baptized and they want to become better.
They promised us that they would come to church. One of my struggles this
week has been sickness. My stomach has not been treating me well.
Well to
be honest my stomach
hasn't really felt 100 percent here in the Philippines. We have still
worked everyday. This week I also found out that one of the brethren that
has helped me so much here in Danao is getting his mission call and he has
asked me to escort him for his endowment. I will get to do that on
Tuesday. I am so excited. i haven't been to the temple in a while.
We had a small storm warning this last week. It ended up being just
fine. Nothing to worry about. I love you all. I hope you
remember Christ this Christmas.

#72 Back in my first area

Hello everyone,
Hello everyone,
I hope all is well. I am doing really good here. Some of you may have
noticed that a storm hit the Philippines. Luckily it went a little bit
north of us so we were totally fine. We didn't have any serious
damage. We just got a lot of rain and some wind. We were all ready
for the storm even though it wasn't as bad as predicted . This last week
has been kind of interesting. I am back in my first area. We were
talking with a lot of the members this last week and it was funny because none
of them believed that I was actually assigned in the same area again. It
has been really cool because now I can actually communicate with them. It
is like I have another chance to build friendships. I have also got to
meet some of our investigators. They are doing pretty good. We did
have 2 of our investigators encounter some anti-mormon websites. They
were asking a lot of really hard questions. Luckily between my comp and I
we were able to answer all of their questions. It really showed me how
important it is to have a testimony of Joseph Smith and the basics before you
learn the deeper stuff. It is like trying to build a house on a weak
foundation. Our mission president has also emphasized that we need to
focus on the simple doctrine. It has really helped me to really pick
apart smaller topics in the gospel so that I can understand them better.

Email from President Tanner
Dear Family and Priesthood Leaders of Cebu East Missionaries,
As you know, we have a major typhoon (Ruby) approaching the
borders of our mission. It is expected to reach us sometime on Saturday,
6 December. In an effort to safeguard our missionaries, we have taken the
following precautions:
We have evacuated all missionaries from the Bogo Zone on the
northern-most end of Cebu Island and moved them to areas farther south where
the storm is predicted to be less severe.
We have evacuated all missionaries from threatened coastlines to
regions farther inland, both on Bohol and Cebu Islands.
We have evacuated all six missionaries from Camotes Island to
safer areas on Cebu Island.
We have requested that each missionary have a 72-hour kit for
just such an event. This request was made after we experienced typhoon
Yolanda last year. During apartment inspections, the availability of
72-hour kits is on the checklist.
We have asked for some time, that each missionary establish an
emergency fund consisting of small denominations and to carry it with them.
We have requested that each companionship have extra water and
food in the apartment.
We have requested that all cell phones be fully charged so we
have the best possibility of communication with each companionship.
Priesthood leaders have met in preparation and determined that meetinghouses
will be available for shelters if needed.
Please note that the storm has been classified as a Category 1
for most of Cebu Island and all of Bohol Island. The only area of our
mission classified as Category 2 is the Bogo region and those missionaries, as
I mentioned, have been moved to safer locations south of Bogo.
We love our missionaries and will do everything we can to keep
them safe. We hope and pray they will be wise, as it is impossible for us
to monitor each missionary individually.
When the storm has passed, I will update you again concerning
their well-being.

#71 Typhoon Queenie

Hey everyone,
This last week has been pretty crazy. We
had a decent size storm hit us and had a couple opportunities to help people
clean up their houses. It was sad to see the people that lost their
houses but it felt great to be able to help them. Right now I am actually
in the process of transferring. I hope that all goes well. I know that I
haven't emailed for a while and I am sorry for that but we had a cool conference
for thanksgiving. We also got to go to a restaurant on a river. It
was way fun. I have had an exciting time in Duero but I hope that all
will be well as I go to Danao. I have been in Danao before but this time I am
going to be a zone leader and companion is Elder Tyler from SLC. It should be
exciting.
